Jaguar's all-new 5.0-litre AJ-V8 XK X150

Introduced for the 2010 model year, the updated Jaguar XK marked one of the most significant developments in the model's life. While the timeless Ian Callum design remained unmistakably Jaguar, beneath the elegant lines came a host of meaningful improvements.

The biggest change was the introduction of Jaguar's all-new 5.0-litre AJ-V8 engine, delivering substantially more power, stronger torque and improved refinement over the outgoing 4.2-litre. Inside, the traditional J-Gate shifter made way for the now-iconic JaguarDrive Selector – the rising rotary gear selector that became a hallmark of modern Jaguars. The cabin also received revised trim, updated instruments, improved technology and higher-quality materials, creating an even more luxurious driving environment.

Externally, subtle revisions included a new front bumper, larger lower air intake, redesigned headlights with LED signature lighting, revised tail lamps and updated alloy wheel designs, giving the XK a more contemporary and purposeful appearance.

Combining effortless performance, grand touring comfort and unmistakable British style, the 5.0-litre XK represents the final evolution of one of Jaguar's finest grand tourers.

Last and best of the XK Series with revised front bumper and light design. Powered by the Gen 3 AJ-V8 direct injection 5.0L V8 with a very light all aluminium construction, performance is superb. Last of the great XKs.

The 8km Circuit de Charade in Clermont Ferrand, which included public road sections, hosted the French Grand Prix in 1965, 1969, 1970 and 1972. It fell out of favour as loose volcanic rock and the lack of any real run-off areas took their toll on cars and drivers alike. The full, longer circuit was last used in 1988 so Jaguar returned to the historic track to mark the anniversary of its closure by completing the first flying lap of the circuit in three decades.

After completing the fastest ever lap of the Nürburgring Nordschleife in a production saloon behind the wheel of the XE’s track-ready stablemate, the SV Project 8, driver Vincent Radermecker attempted to set a production saloon lap record in the XE 300 SPORT. With a roundabout and two narrow gateways not used in the original circuit to contend with, Vincent lapped the demanding track in just 4 minutes 09 seconds at an average speed of 116km/h (72mph).

Really interesting listening to Chris Harris and friends spend time with the pre-production Jaguar Type 01, while also driving some of the Jaguars that inspired it.

It’s a thoughtful discussion from people who genuinely understand Jaguar’s history, design language and character. What I found most interesting is that the story behind the car may be a little more nuanced than many of us first thought.

Jaguar has never really moved the needle by playing it safe, and some of the brand’s most celebrated cars were controversial when new. Regardless of where you sit on the new direction, it’s an interesting conversation and well worth a watch...

Gerry McGovern has departed JLR, marking a significant moment for Jaguar at a time when the brand is undergoing one of the most dramatic reinventions in its history. In recent years McGovern became the central figure behind Jaguar’s repositioning as an ultra luxury, electric only marque, a move designed to reset the brand’s future direction. The reveal of the Type 00 concept was intended to signal this shift, presenting a clean break from the company’s traditional design language. The reaction, however, was sharply divided. Supporters viewed the new approach as bold and necessary, while critics argued that the concept and the surrounding marketing stepped too far away from Jaguar’s heritage. The wider corporate rebrand, including the change in tone, visuals and messaging, became one of the most debated chapters in the company’s modern era.

Although McGovern’s recent focus was firmly on Jaguar, his earlier design leadership played a major role in Land Rover’s success over the past decade. Under his guidance the brand delivered some of its most influential vehicles, including the reinvented Defender, the Range Rover Evoque and the most recent generations of the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. These models helped elevate Land Rover’s global image, drive sustained sales growth and strengthen its position in the premium SUV market.

McGovern’s departure comes as JLR faces a number of broader challenges. The company is still recovering from a major cyber attack that disrupted production and operations across multiple facilities. New American tariffs on imported vehicles have added further pressure at a critical moment for the business. At the same time JLR has transitioned away from the traditional Jaguar Land Rover identity to a simplified JLR structure where Jaguar, Range Rover, Defender and Discovery are treated as separate brands within a single organisation.

Taken together, these factors provide the backdrop to McGovern’s exit. His contribution to the design and direction of both Jaguar and Land Rover has been significant, and he leaves at a time when the company is reassessing its creative and strategic priorities. For Jaguar in particular his departure marks the beginning of a new phase as the brand works to refine its future identity, balance innovation with heritage and regain stability in a rapidly changing market.
